Pushing Upward

Shăng indicates that (under its conditions) there will be great progress and success. The (most effective way to) seek by (the qualities implied in) the hexagram, is to secure the help of the great man. Let (the subject of it) not be anxious (about his success). If he moves to the south, he will be fortunate. The first SIX, divided, shows (its subject) advancing upwards and (meeting with) great good fortune. The second NINE, undivided, shows its subject possessed of sincerity, and advantageous in every respect. He will be free from error. The third NINE, undivided, shows (its subject) advancing upwards in an empty (and self-satisfied way), and (as it were) ascending a deserted mound. The topmost NINE, undivided, shows its subject advancing upwards, like a man who is sincere and correct. There will be advantage in prosecuting his undertaking (as he has been doing). The fourth SIX, divided, shows the king employing (the subject of the line) on the mountain. There will be good fortune; and no error. The fifth SIX, divided, shows (the subject) advancing upwards with firm correctness. He will be fortunate. He will himself be entirely approved.
